We offer Ph.D. degrees in Ministry, Biblical Studies, Christian Education and Christian Education Technology & Media.

A Th.D. (Doctor of Theology) and a Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) in Christianity are both doctoral degrees in the field of religious studies, but they differ in their focus and approach. Here are some key differences:

  1. Focus of Study:
    • Th.D.: A Th.D. program typically focuses on theology, biblical studies, church history, and religious philosophy. It emphasizes the study of Christian doctrines, theological traditions, and the application of theology in practical contexts, such as ministry or pastoral work.
    • Ph.D.: A Ph.D. program in Christianity may have a broader focus that includes theology but also encompasses other areas such as religious studies, comparative religion, ethics, or the study of Christianity in its historical and cultural contexts.
  2. Research Emphasis:
    • Th.D.: A Th.D. program often emphasizes practical or applied research, geared towards addressing specific theological or pastoral issues within the Christian faith. Students may engage in theological reflection, biblical interpretation, and analysis of religious texts to explore practical implications for Christian ministry.
    • Ph.D.: A Ph.D. program places a stronger emphasis on academic research, critical analysis, and original scholarship. Doctoral candidates undertake independent research projects, produce a dissertation that contributes to the existing body of knowledge, and typically aim to advance the scholarly understanding of Christianity.
  3. Career Paths:
    • Th.D.: Graduates with a Th.D. degree often pursue careers in pastoral ministry, religious education, counseling, or other roles within Christian organizations. The degree is particularly relevant for individuals seeking leadership positions in churches or seminaries, where a strong theological foundation is required.
    • Ph.D.: Graduates with a Ph.D. in Christianity may pursue academic careers as professors, researchers, or scholars in universities, colleges, or research institutions. They may specialize in areas such as biblical studies, theology, history of Christianity, or religious studies and contribute to the academic discourse in their chosen field.

It's important to note that the specific requirements and focus of Th.D. and Ph.D. programs may vary between universities and institutions.
