Purpose and Scope of the Ph.D. in Christianity at the New Jersey Institute of Theology

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Christianity at the New Jersey Institute of Theology is a rigorous academic program dedicated to equipping scholars, theologians, and ministry leaders with advanced biblical knowledge, theological depth, and research expertise. This program is designed to foster a commitment to biblical truth, doctrinal soundness, and the advancement of the Kingdom of God.

1. Focus of Study

The Ph.D. program is designed to equip scholars in the study of Christianity through biblical theology, church history, Christian ethics, apologetics, and pastoral leadership. Research and scholarship must serve the Kingdom by upholding biblical doctrines, defending the faith, and applying God’s truth to the Church and society.

2. Research Emphasis

Doctoral research must contribute positively to the understanding of biblical Christianity rather than attempt to justify or accommodate what God calls sin. The Bible warns against those who seek to distort the truth for personal or societal acceptance:

    •    2 Timothy 4:3-4“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.”

As such, our academic inquiry remains rooted in truth and righteousness, not in the accommodation of cultural trends that contradict the Bible.

3. Career Paths

Graduates from this Ph.D. program will be prepared to serve as scholars, theologians, professors, and ministry leaders who are committed to biblical fidelity and doctrinal integrity. Their work will contribute to Christian scholarship while upholding the authority of Scripture and training future generations in sound theology.
